So I got a copy of the 1947 - 1954 Factory Assembly Manual. Pretty interesting for someone trying to learn like me.

I see that each bolt, washer etc that is required for a repair has a number associated with it. So a particular bolt called is a 122126 ...

Is there a chart or some way to match these numbers to a spec I can find?

Haasman. You can buy complete bolt assy. from our host Classic Parts of America and i`ll think if i remember right a chart that followes the box explanes what size each group of bolts have in the UHF/UNC sizes

There are bolt charts to find on the internet explaning to with classification/hardness and thread they belong.

It's GMC, not Chevy and it's 55.2 through 59, not 47-54, but my GMC Master Parts Book section 20 contains 16 pages of "standard parts" such as lock washers, wing nuts, fuses, grommets, flared tube nuts, etc. All are listed by size and GM part number. As an example, there are about 25 different flat washers listed, from part # 131015 3/16" ID x 7/16 OD to part # 131001 1 5/16" ID x 2 1/4" OD.

Being a GMC book, there are no STOVEBOLTS listed.

Are there particular part numbers you are looking for?? If so, list them and I'll see if they are in my book.

Thanks Blueflame. I looked through the site and saw some kits, but not what I need.

Bill, it would be great if you would look up these:

    Nut 441239
    Bolt 132900
    Screw 144744
    Screw 144728
    Bolt 455489
    Screw 127933

Do you guys know of any chart that I can refer to or download?

    Thanks for the help

I bought a complete kit from Jim Carters for stainless washers/nuts, bolts and screws for the 47-54. It was pricey but worth it when I got them all in. Someone did all the thinking and they were in little baggies all marked and counted for each application. It was for everything from the cab forward.

Does that kit include things like heater mount nuts and say the brace from the dash to the firewall?

I don't think so, you can check his online catalog to see what's in the kit.

Most of these can be found in stainless at Lowe's. Just take a sample thread size and count how many you need. I found it easier to buy bulk bags as the same sizes are used throughout the trucks.

    So shiny

Were the screws clutch head or phillips?
I need to get all new as well. I saved as many bolts and things as I could, but now I don't see anyway I'd put those rusty old bolts back in my nicely painted (and most beautiful) GMC! :p

    Zig,

One nice thing about all those shiny new pieces of hardware is that it will tone done the effect of that hood of yours too! BTW Carter's package/box are all original style as well and come year specific.

    Old Hardware

A few different ways to re-use old rusty hardware .

Easiest is to buy a $25 Lapidary Tumbler @ Wallymart etc. and use some Phosphoric Acid in it instead of sand , you'll be well pelased at how clean & shiny any hardware comes out .

DIY Cad plating kits are available to make a really nice job of it .
