I finally got my overdrive working. After fiddling with the wiring etc. I finally found out that the solenoid was full of oil. Now my three speed truck is a 3 speed manual +2 automatic overdrive. I am really exited to get the wiring finalized now that I know it works. I am debating between the stock setup with the kickdown switch and the toggle switch setup. Next on the list is polishing the vintage corvette valve covers for my 327, installing them, and also installing a new intake gasket. I guess maybe I can get some of that done over the holidays.

I have a 59 Chevy pickup with a 235 six. I found a manual 3 speed with over drive. Bench tested, but can't seem to get to engauage when going down the road. Looking for some insight.

There's several things to check :

Is the cable pushed right home ? . the overdrive is locked out when the cable is pulled out .

Does the solenoid have current ? . it must be powered by a relay .

Do the governor contacts close when the drive shaft spins over 30 MPH ? .

Do those tests on the truck then report back , someone will know more .
