Okay, here's another question. The guy that gave me my 235 also threw in some very gently used brake parts off his '58. I have four almost new wheel cylinders and four nearly new drums from his truck. He is a fanatic and his truck is going to be gorgeous. He decided to upgrade his brakes very shortly after re-doing his stock setup and I gain the benefit of it, I hope. Can anyone tell me if these parts from his '58 will work on my '55 first series half ton? Andy
Andy, the drums and wheel cylinders should be interchangable. The Master catalog (1929-57) lists the same part # for 51-57 1/2 tons. The 58 supplement does not mention the parts (Which means that they would be the same as the 57).
You Da Man!!! Thanks Ken. I knew somebody would have the master catalog and be able to help me out with this. I would love to get my hands on one. How do I get one? Bonus for me . New brake parts for nought. "It's a happy day", he said to himself as he realized the guy who GAVE him the motor for his truck also saved him hundreds of dollars in brake rebuilding parts. Andy
Andy, go to www.chevy.tocmp.com There's an online version of the 1929-54 Master Parts catalog, the 1929-57 catalog, and the 58 supplement. My hard copy was my grandfather's, and between the grease smears, blood stains, etc, i sometimes go to the online one!
Oh No ~ WARNING !!! Andy NOOOOOO !!!!! if you use those cherry Bendix brakes parts that appear to be -exactly- the same as your '55 poarts only better , your truck will EXPLODE ! You'd better mail them all to me for proper disposal Just funnin' ya Andy , good score ! .
