My memory sucks some days. Seems to me I remember a rubber bumper on the brake pedal for when it comes up to hit the firewall. Am I dreaming this up? I cannot find it in any catalogs.
Coach, The clutch pedal has a bumper, but the brake pedal travel is determined by the linkage setup to the master cylinder.
Actually no ~ The pedal's rubber bumper sets the pedal height against the Toe Board , then the clevis pin is used to properly adjust the M/C's free play , should be no more than 1/4" .
Nate, are you referring to the rectangular rubber bumper, as indicated in the picture I posted? The factory assembly manual I have indicates that bumper is installed on the clutch pedal arm. (Sect 6, Sheet 4), and the Brake Pedal Instruction has no indication of a bumper. (Sect 5, Sheet 2.01) My truck is set up this way. Did I miss something? I know You're the head Guru on these trucks, and I'd hate to think You may be mistaken!
Pedal Bumpers I'm always wrong , not to worry . Nevertheless , it's very important to have the pedals with the rubber bumpers touch the back side of the toe board firmly from the return spring pull , then you can properly adjust the master cylinder clevis rod .
Please don't confuse me again! Okay who's more correct! Mine is LIke Bilbo's and I can't find any reference to a brake bumper either. The adjustment procedure for the brake pedal makes no mention of it just the firewall clearance. So what do we do? Go to a museum and look at an original factory setup? Woe is me... please end my confusion with a best way to go on this one. I thought I had it done already!
Brake Pedal Adjustment Go back and read post # 5 ~ Attach a good brake pedal return spring so the pedal returns up and hits the toe board with a " THUMP " then adjust the master cylinder push rod so you have 1/4" maximum free travel when depressed by your fingers , before you feel it begin to push the master cylinder . This is dead simple , forget about the rubber bumper , adjust it then go drive and enjoy your old truck .
I got it! Okay on the THUMP and ADJUST. First I'll bleed the brakes again and then do the adjustments. So now I'm no longer confused
