I own a 1957 GMC and have recently purchased the bullet style bumper guards. I am confused on how to attach to bumper. Anyone have advise?

I did receive some replies in another "Thread" titled New Member. I thought I would be more specific.

I may have to replace my bumper to adapt guards? If so, who has that specific bumper? All advise is welcomed. Thx in advance, Tom

Tom, You might want to get a hold of Bill Hanlon and PM him on mounting the Bracket at the top, he was the first to answer your original post! he had a
Beautiful GMC truck with the Bullets on it,But had lost his truck due to an accident,He might be able to tell you how to mount them OR get you to a GMC site were somebody knows how or can tell you!
Bill is pretty sharp on the GMC truck seen!

    Good luck!

We've already exchanged messages. Sorry, but I have no details. Your suggestion about getting GMC specific answers should lead him to Old GMC truck web site

He will have to register to use the site. Pretty GMC knowledgeable guys over there.

Yes, he sent me a picture of the aftermath. Very sad. Thanks guys for your input. I will try local car shows and car gatherings. I just haven't seen any trucks yet.

    Your truck

I like the color, actually I like the whole truck.
I am not real familiar with GMCs, I want to ask a question, are GMCs front bumpers like Chevys and can be bolted on upside down? Once I put mine on upside down because my helper (wife) did not follow my directions and I was lying on my back and was only concerned with bolting it on, as soon as I stood up and said the appropriate words the bumper was installed properly.
Seems like there was some discussion on this subject on here several months ago.

I think Gerald is right Tom, your bumper is on upside down. Next time you read the instructions and have SWMBO do the wrench work. GMC and Chevy bumpers are identical except for the two (?) extra holes on each side to attach the bumper guards.

Here is the best picture I have of my 57's front bumper prior to the rollover last October.

Yes, the bumper was on upside down. I guess we share the same wife. lol

I corrected it a week after these photos.

I am most proud of my hood ornament. I just love it. I installed it last week. I will post a pic soon.

After looking at your bumper, I believe mine is all wrong. It must be a fake. I will do some more hunting. In the mean time, here are some shots of my Hood ornament and the Bumper Guards. Maybe there wrong too.

Pretty sure that is a 58/59 hood bird. Looks NICE!

Do you have a picture of the out side of the bumber guards?

The T in your serial number specifies 1957 model.

I agree the 58/59 hood bird is better looking than the 55.2-57 hood bird.

Those appear to be the correct 57 bumper guards to me, but I'm working strictly from memory.

    gmc bumper

there are 2 extra holes in the bumper
Just next to the square holes for the bumper bolts as you can see on the chrome bumper
But BE AWARE there is a difference as you can see on the sandblasted bumper
the bullets are wider apart on the 58-59 type gmc's
the bumper bullets are narrower on the the 55-56 type gmc's
As far as I know ?!?!!?
I hope this will answer your question

Nice truck and I love the hood ornament
    It's 58-59 hood ornament
It doesn't have the vertical bars in the engine inlet

    Thx Tony.
Yes, I liked the 58'-59' hood ornament better and really paid through the nose for it. I just saw a 55'-57' one on Ebay go for $911 that was not as in good as shape as mine. Although I wanted it. lol

Your bumper looks like a 58'? I see the extra holes too. I will do more research. btw, nice little scooter in pic!
