I'm in the beginning stages of getting my 48 1 ton down to the frame to rebuild. I believe this truck to be "all original". Not sure it's really important but it would be interesting to find out. Does anyone have any idea on how to go about verifing the numbers I have against its factory production?

Rick - use "Search" and enter: VIN de-code . Read up where to find numbers. Someone will be able to make sense of the VIN if you post it. Larry

Rick, I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, but serial numbers abound on these trucks and can tell you alot of things. The s/n on the door post will tell you the year, which assembly plant built it, the series it is, the month it was assembled and the sequential number of the truck.

There are 2 ways to tell if your engine is original to your year (notice I did not say the original). The engine will have a s/n that verifies the year in which it was made, which plant and the sequential number of the engine. The block itself also has a casting number which will tell you what year or years that particular block was used.

The tranny and rear end also have s/n's.

Long story short, you can verify that your parts should be on your particular truck by these numbers, the not necessarily whether they were on there originally.

Hope this rather long winded reply helps.

    Thanks

    Ken,

I didn't know the years were associated with the serial numbers on the engine and trannny. That's the info I was looking for. Thanks again.
