Looking to replace the wiper motor & linkage on my '50. Current setup is a single speed blazer unit. I had at one time the Newport 2 speed system that died. Never liked the fact that the arms would never self park in the right position no matter how many times I adjusted it. I see that Specialty Power makes a cable driven wiper motor #WWK4754-2I with intermittent wiper switch. Any feedback on this system? The price is comparable to a new motor & linkage.

I have never used their wipers but have used many of their power window units with minimal problems. The 55-7 Chevy's used a cable system from the factory and never had a problem.

Went ahead and purchased the unit, we'll see how it goes.

Good luck, Robert~ Lucky guy! You get to crawl up under the dash and bend your fingers in ways that just aren't normal! God speed.

The fog cleared and now I remembering using this unit on several vehicles. It has a single large diameter cable, maybe 5/16 in diameter, that allows you to remotely mount the drive motor. Works good. Used one in a 34 Ford Cabriolet with the motor mounted in the right kick panel area and the cable making several near 90 degree bends; no problems.

Received the unit the other day but I haven't got around to installing it yet. I'm also waiting on a set of the Dakota Digital gauges to come in, so I'll probably do it all at once.

I would really like to see install pictures, and comments, when you do this, Robert.

Working on it now. Also installing some Dakota Digital gauges as well. Will post some pics when I get it all figured out.

Spent the last couple of days off & all on this install, that's right, days! As I mentioned before my biggest problem was the location to mount the motor. I started out trying out the cowl vent brace (my vent's welded up) but the angle was all wrong. Then I noticed the two bolts on the firewall, not sure what the intended was originally but I unbolted them I was plesantly surprised to see there was a plate attached. I taped the motor to the plate then bolted it back in and it worked out perfectly so I welded it to the motor mounting plate. After several attempts I finally got it to work. Now you can adjust the sweep on this and I will have to take it out at least once more before I'll call it good.

I'm assuming the silver "cable" exiting the box to the left is the drive cable? How doe's it connect to the wiper arms?

image.jpeg The cable is encased in an aluminum tube. This is a pic of the way everything is connected. I'm actually scrapping this setup for the Newport Engineering unit. I've installed and removed it too many times adjusting it & I've grown frustrated. The Newport bolts in and I won't have to deal with all this grease!

Thanks for the picture. Now I understand how it works. Too bad your having so much trouble with it. This will help me in the future, decide what one to use.
If you go with the Newport one, I would like to see how you get along with it.

It wouldn't be that bad if my truck was under construction as recommended by the manufacturer. It's challenging trying to keep the grease from getting all over everything when you take it out because the tubes have to be removed. I do like the intermittent switch. I may try to see if it will work on the other unit.

Gave it one final try. Contacted tech support and explained the issue I was having and the Technician instantly diagnosed my problem. The motor was out of sync, when adjusting the sweep the rotary wheel should have been removed, I turned it while still connected to the motor. Problem solved and every thing works as it should.

Glad to hear that, Robert! Not that playing around under the dash with wiper arms isn't a fun thing to do, but~
Now you can drive it in the rain! #biggrin#

I ran a Newport wiper motor for several years, finally got tired of the noise and had my vacuum motor rebuilt by Ficken wiper service. Installed a vacuum resevoir and now have silent wipers which work great. All the noise of the Newport unit transfers to the dash and became very annoying to me, especially in stop and go traffic. I normally don't plan on driving in the rain, but I managed to get caught in a half dozen or so downpours this year. Just something to consider. John
