are you talking about the beauty rings for the wheels or the trim that goes on the side of the bed? I believe your talking about the wheels,If So I was told that the clips slide onto the back of the beauty ring and then the ring snaps onto the wheel.I am not going stock with my Cameo so am not sure,but was told this by another Cameo owner! It's been too long since I did the 57 but I do remember that I also was baffled by the clips. Played around till I hit "Eureka" on the first one then the others went well. The truck was in very sad shape with a 440 Chrysler engine and the center of the dash replaced with the center of a Ford dash so the Ford radio would fit. Turned out nice and was a factory Hydramatic V8 truck. Here's a before and after shot but also before the beauty rings were installed. I think the 57 was the prettiest of all the Cameos.
