Can someone shed some light?

I have a 1953 and I am trying to identify the engine by the cylinder head casting numbers. The number is:
CON 4 - A 20 8 - 3738307
Which I take to mean:

CONVEYOR 4 -JANUARY 20TH 1958 - 1958-1962 235

Here is my question: Running from the top of my oil filter is a brass tube (in some plastic flex tubing cover) that connects to my head. What is this thing? See pictures.

That was a common temporary fix when the engines started to wear out & the main bearings got to where they could not supply the oil pressure needed to get oil up to the rocker arms.

The kit tapped directly into the oil gallery fitting {where the oil pressure gauge tube is} & plugged into the pipe plug access on the rocker arm oil feed port........ & it drew off enough oil to supply the rocker arms with oil.

Looks like yours got installed backwards as the line is supposed to wrap around the rear of the engine.

This one feeds off the top of the bee hive oil filter. It it has to be there I would like to re route it around the back. The line as it sits is very floppy. Your picture are great.

External Rocker Feed Line

It's supposed to go 'round behind the engine .

GM used to sell these same kits long ago .
