carb replacement advice needed

I have a 64 c10 with inline 6 250 with a 1 barrel rochester on it and cant seem to get it running right, and previous owners had same problem. Has factory manifold, just wanting some advice on what to put on it and where to get the parts or the best, rather cheap most efficient swap possible because not sure I'll keep the I6 in the truck for long.

Have you rebuilt the carb or asked someone who knows about carbs to look at it? could be a simple adjustment or maybe proper rebuild. 1) you could find another used carb from a donor truck & rebuild it 2) you could order a new/refurbished one from our host, LMC, etc. 3) as another alternative check out inliners.org these guys have pepped up inline 6's and made 4 barrel carbs fit with a custom intake adapter! this would allow you to use a quadra jet with small primaries & disconnected secondaries... also this would allow you to use the same carb on your future V8 swap.

yea had it rebuilt, still no luck. Previous owners said they had it rebuilt 2 or 3 times, I'm not sure its the right carb myself anyways it'll run all day with the choke on but with the choke off it cuts right off. But there is lots of stuff on this I dont know about maybe yall can help? It has something hooked on bracket on manifold behind carb that looks like a solenoid or something it has a wire from harness hooked to it, but dont see the purpose, also the heat riser on the exhaust manifold the thing with a rod it's not hooked to anything and not sure what it went to unless maybe the stock breather cover that isnt on it plus the previous owners just put a fitting in the carb for the fuel line. I dont know if its the correct carb or not.

Since you have already rebuilt the carb I'm curious if you have checked other things such as plugs, wires, distributor, gaskets (intake, exhaust & carb), check the exhaust & intake manifolds for leaks or cracks... a leaky gasket could throw off the carbeuration or simply warm fuel if the supply line is too close to the exhaust manifold.

My inline 6 was a 292 & I only ran it for one summer so I don't have much experience with I6's.

can you provide more information on "not running right"?? runs properly while cold? you mentioned it runs better with the choke on which tells me that its starving for fuel (have you checked your old fuel pump is working properly?)

Hadnt checked it but I was gonna go ahead and replace it anyways, cause the tank that was in the truck was rusted so I thought they might have been some that got into the diaphram in the fuel pump. I was just gonna wait till I put the brand new tank under the bed so that I know for sure they want be any foreign debris in the fuel pump. The donor tank looked clean but I want to be safe, As far as gasket leaves Ive tested that too, no leaks found, but it will run all day with the choke on but if you release it it will die, the one time I got it to run without the choke you couldnt give it much gas you had to roll into it or it would just fall on its face. But it died on me on the way home and since then I cant even get it to start. Ive checked plugs wires and etc no problems there that I can see. So I'll just keep tinkering I guess.

Clean the fuel filter then install a second "inline" fuel filter for extra protection when using the old tank. I had the same problems with my V8 "falling on its face" it turned out to be timing... my weights were not advancing properly (rusty springs & weights) when I'd try to accelerate. maybe try cleaning out the distributor & checking points.
