    I read a few threads on Carb Conversions. I saw where Nate preferred the Carter YF series Carbs. I am going to a dual Carb setup on a Fenton intake on my 55-57 235 engine. He has never steered us wrong, so I took his advice.

    I got a good deal on two Carter YFA rebuild kits. Is the YF carb the same as the YFA except the latter has auto choke? I have to yet scrounge up two cores to rebuild. I want to keep the manual choke, but that's not absolutely necessary. I think the YF without the autochoke will look less clutterd on the intake.

    Can I rebuild yf's and yfa's with these kits?

    I *think* so ;

    IIRC (rare but it happens) the YFA kit has a couple extra gaskets and seals in it .

    FWIW , I rarely need kits when servicing Carter YF's , they're MUCH better designed and built than the Rottenchester Leaks-A-Lot Series 'B' is ......

    You'll see when you open the box of rusty junk that's purported to be a YF carby.... after you dry your tears and get to work , you'll be pleasantly surprised at the quality of the various nasty old parts , the steel parts clean up really well with a gentle dilute solution of Phosphoric Acid as do the brass jets but never , EVER the pot metal parts nor the floats nor anything having a solder repair :eek:

    Just for grins , service ONE YF and plop it on in lieu of the Rochester 'B' , give it a spin and see if you don't like it better allready....

    As some old fool once said : the proof is in the pudding :p

    :cool:
