The OSHA guys would have a heart attack just watching this video. The guys working in the factories back then had to be alert all day, or get eaten alive by the equipment around them. Neat sttuff.. enjoy: http://www.dump.com/2011/07/15/fascinating-1936-footage-of-car-assembly-line-video/
Impressive! Demanded coordination and concentration for repetitive work. Didn't see any missing fingers! I can imagine the noise of that machinery and hammering too! Impressive. Lots of folks from the hill country traveled up to work in Detroit, etc, to get out of the coal mines, and for decent steady pay. Maybe more so towards the 40's and 50's.
Neat. Its like the tv show, "How Do They Do that?" You can learn things that you never imagined wanting to know
I posted the video about a year ago... just watched it again.. so cool seeing how automated we were really were in 1936. Thanks for keeping the post alive!
Thought this might be a good thread to add onto. Great cutaway views of the Chevy Six begin about 5:45, including an explanation of the old "dip and splash" crank lube... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vz2p1SvuYjY
