>WHAT IS THE PART ##### FOR THE WIRING HARNESS SO I CAN HOOK >UP MY ONE WIRE ALTERNATOR. 1963-72) Alternator Conversion Kit An External to Internal Regulator kit. Easy plug-in conversion that can be used with 1985 and earlier series alternators. Part # 52-896 DValentine
The Alternator Conversion Harness KIt we offer for the 60-66 trucks is a harness that converts your generator or externally powered alternator truck to a internal regulated alternator. This system will charge your battery when you start your truck from an idle. One wire alternators won't kick in until your motor hits a certain RPM which on V8s usually isn't too bad, but on older 6 cylinders and older style V8s with alot of miles on them, you have to rev the motor more for it to kick in. I've started my older vehicle at a show and idled around the fairgrounds listening to the radio for a while and when I got back in it to start it again the battery was low. Sometimes you don't remember to rev it up till it starts charging. At night it's easy because you can tell by your lights if it's charging, but in the middle of the afternoon, it's easy to forget. The 52-895 is for 60-62 6cyl & V8-Gen. to Int Reg. or 52-896 63-66 for Ext. to Int Reg alternal.
The advantage is that you can get rid of your external voltage regulator. You won't need to worry about finding a replacement if/when it wears out. The other advantage is that the newer alts put out a higher charge more consistant charge. DValentine
Our harness convert over to a internally regulated alternator. The only advantage I can see to a 1 wire is less wires. Three or four wires don't look bad if they are routed correctly.
