Clean Frame

Hey I was wandering how to clean my truck frame. Theres a lot of dirt and some rust. Would a power washer work? Any help would do. Thanks

Whatever it takes is my suggestion !!
Powerwash all the loose crap as much as you can get.

I used angle grinder and hand drill with wire wheel brushes of various types.
If you can afford to blast it thats not a bad idea either......

I AM DOING THE SAME PROJECT SO FAR I HAVE USED 1" TO 4" PAINT SCRAPERS TO GET THE HEAVY DIRT OFF. THEN A WIRE WHEEL BRUSH ON A DRILL AND HAVE EVEN SAND BLASTED SOME OUT IN THE DRIVE WAY. I TRYED A BELT SANDER LAST AND IT CUT PRETTY FAST WITH 60 GRIT ON IT. I ALSO HAVE A SEAT IN THIS TRUCK THAT I DONT PLAN TO REUSE IN TULSA.I HAVENT DONE ANYTHING BUT PUT A SEAT COVER ON IT BUT ITS NOT IN BAD SHAPE.

I sprayed my frame with a fine mist of diesel & solvent...letting it soak for ~1 hour. Then I attacked it with a 2500 psi pressure sprayer. Finally, I sandblasted the entire frame.

Time invested = 4 hours.

Primer & paint frame. Time invested = 2 hours.

Looks like brand new...

I'm told that you can do the first two steps, letting it dry for a day or two. Then coat it with POR-15 or Eastwood "Rust Encapsulator" (looks like bed liner stuff). Everyone says this is the easiest method to coat & seal your frame. I just didn't like this look...

I am a big fan of Powder Coating.
I took my bare frame to have it powder coated. It was really rusty and nasty with grease and tar. They sandblasted, preped and powder coated for $350.00. I couldnt believe how good it came back. The powder coating sealed and got to places that you could not get paint. The way I figure, I saved money. So I took the rest of all my undercarriage parts to them as well....Terry

Get some gunk and a wire brush and go to town.Let it sit for a few hours the power wash it.Works for me every time i restore a truck......Chevyman
