Cleaning up old wheels

I want to clean up my wheels and repaint them. How is the best way to do this? Do I sandblast them and them paint them? What type of paint would be best? I want to make them the original light green color. I don't think I can have them powder coated because of the color I want.(it may chip also) These are the original style 15" 6 lug with the clips for center caps. After I buy the paint and pay to have them cleaned and painted would it be cheaper to buy new ones and have them painted the right color or not? Any input will be appreciated.

What kind of shape are your wheels in,if they have suface rust and are
not rust pitted real bad I would go with sandblasting them,also are
they true and not bent up after all the years of service,Just things
you want to think about.If they are not that bad I would Prime them
with say an epoxy primer,and shoot the paint on with a spray gun
Vs,rattle can paint,an enamel has a hardner you add to the paint and would give you a better shine and I would say a much better finish
in my own opinion,than rattle can paint,you could have the paint mixed and put into spray cans if you dont have access to a spray
gun&compressor.Really there are alot of ways in looking at this.
Yes, you could buy new wheels and have them done OR you could buy
the compressor and paint gun equipment and even a sand blaster
and do it all yourself,Yea it might cost more than having someone
else do it but there again you would have the equipment to do
your next project on your truck(and one can never have to many TOOLS!)Its really up to you to think about what avenue you want to go!

I agree you can never have too many tools, but I am running out of room for tools. I have a small compressor that if I put a filter on I think would be fine for a paint gun, just not an impact wrench. I think I would have to have the wheels cleaned before I could make the call on how bad they are rusted. There are alot of things built up on them besides rust. I am just having a dificult time finding someone in my area to blast them. I thought it would be easier to locate.

Any chance you might have a place in your area that can chemically
dip them?
As big as Texas is I would think there would be a local sandblaster
or a place you could have them stripped,someone from your area might
know!
