Hey, Hey, Hey, The fellows who have my truck told my daughter who works there at the paint shop that they felt guilty for keeping the truck for 10 weeks without finnishing it. The owner (cuz) and 4 of the employees volunteered to work all day saturday on it so it would be finished and ready to come home to mama on monday or tuesday. Caint wait, still not holding my breath, but I can hope for the best.

I't sure going to be a let down if it don't happen.

I don't think I'll be able to hold the BOOP off of them if they don't come through!

    She's sure excited :D

Anyway, if it happens, I'll be postin up a storm...

    Bingo

well Ken at least i chuckled, I needed that right now.

To be nice, and I always try to do that. I just asked when he thought it might be ready. I told him I have off two weeks starting in a few days and I sure wanted to get in some quality time on it with the Boop.

Same song, second verse... "well ------ pause ------ i'm sure gona try to get to it this week. But we did get to spen a little time on it"

I'm trying to remember it's just a truck, there are more serious things in life.

Anyway, saturday I did get another truck, guess I can look forward to working on it. It's in great shape, all original and runs, very little rust and the price was right... $500. Gona be fixin it up for a fellow, but, I'LL PAINT IT MYSELF!

Suposed to make a good $$$$$ on it, so I guess I should cheer up. they are just metal, rubber and oil,,, there we go, now that doesn't sound so bad

Do you remember the old "anticipation" song? That's how I feel,,, it's gota be good after so long a wait.

    I'ts all in the bottle

Yeh, I love that stuff, don't it just give you that fuzzy little feeling all over?

I don't know what else to do but laugh. He did say "you don't owe us anything" like that's supposed to make me feel better about waiting 10 weeks.

I guess I need to learn not to get my hopes up when someone tells me they are going to do something...

On the brighter side. Not everyone is like that. I like to believe most people try to do the right thing and keep their word. As the Boop would say "WHATEVER"

Maybe I need to go back and read the "old sayings post"

    Old saying

Another one came to me when I read about cuz.

"I'll knock the crap out of you and bury you in a matchbox!"

Insinuating, of course, that after the crap is gone you would only need a matchbox for what was left, get it?

    Oh well.

    Wrong Thread

 I think that that reply would be more appropriate in the "Old sayings" thread, Bill. :D Just jokin' dude! :D Haven't seen a new pic lately. You didn't put a KC Chief arrow on it and now you're embarrassed to post it, did you? :D

    Ken,

No, nothing like that. I am in the short rows now waiting for the painter to get done with the bed. I had a guy weld in a section years ago and, when the painter put the rosebud to it it warped like crazy so I had to take it back and have a whole new piece welded in. The bed might be ready this week if all the parts come together.

I figured out why I love these old trucks. I can work on them. I couldn't get the lights to work right and, thinking modern, I nearly gave up cause I am so use to working with cars that depend on computers. I finally pulled the light switch out and took a brass brush to all the terminals and hooked it all back up. It works great. It makes you troubleshoot and it is refreshing to use your brain to troubleshoot something that is not associated with a blasted computer.

By the way, which is best, spot welding the angle strip to the bed side or bolting it?

You got the lights to work without a computer?

 How could that be? A buddy of mine bought a brand new Tahoe with every bell and whistle on it a couple of years ago. He told me that he could tell the pressure in each tire by punching in "F4" and then "1" followed by # this and # that. I told him I could too by taking a pencil guage "only" and unscrewing tire valve one and placing pencil guage "only" to valve stem 1...we don't talk much about cars anymore, but he replaced his "out of balanced" tires 20K before i did because of that "out of date" pencil thing. Tailgator, I couldn't agree with you more! Modern technology ain't what it's cracked up to be. I'd rather burn out a set of points any day than fry a computer! Oops, my age is showing again.

Hey Ken the technology thing is not so bad as long as you understand the do's and dont's of it. Like don't unplug a control module with the key on, it will let out the magic smoke every time. Or don't put your test light to an airbag system, the bomb WILL go off. (by the way if any of you guys are messing around underneath the dash or in the doors of your new cars and see a few yellow or orange wires, LEAVE THEM ALONE, because they are airbag wires and as I said before the BOMB will go off). I agree that some of the technology is pretty stupid such as our cars have voice activation and bluetooth telephones in them, but if you're the owner and not the mechanic then it really is pretty cool to have and you really do get used to it. Now the most dumb thing I've seen on our cars is the 7 series has a butt messager and seat fans for air conditioned seats.

Your friend with the FTM(flat tire monitor) probably is like ALL of my customers and don't even know where the valve stem is on their wheels. They think that when we check the tire pressures at every 15,000 miles then that's good enough. Those kind of people frustrate me, and heaven forbid they bring the car in for a rotate and balance.

As far as points, that's not my thing. I couldn't even draw you a map to get to them, so the technology stuff is easier for me to work with. I can set here and explain what every sensor on the engine does and why it does it to make that little spark for ignition, but when it comes to distributors and carbs, I'm as lost as last years easter egg. So when I get to the engine part of mine, I plan on doing the whole dist, and carb thing so I'm going to lean on you guys for advice.

BTW Boopster, don't ever build cars for profit, it will take all of the fun out of it and will turn it into a job. That's a big mistake, that's why I'm a mechanic now because that was my hobby and can get pretty burnt out on it at times. Let us know what you bought though, you shouldn't leave us hanging like that!!!:p

    Fun for work

I purchased a 49. Will eventually be fixin it up original.

Yep, know what you mean about working on them as a job. Used to do mechanic work 25 years ago and got burned out (back in the points and condensor day). My situation has changed lots over the years and my sweet wifes doc said years ago I either got to hire a nurse or stay at home with her. She's worse now and don't have much time before some undeserving male takes the Boop for a wife GRRRRRRRRRRR. She's got diabeties bad (seven shots a day) and has to have someone with her at all times. Talk about modern technology, why cant in a day that computers seem to be the fix for everything can't we figure out how to fix a body?

Anywho, as much as ive done in my life the only thing I seem to be able to figure out to do at home and make a little money is to work on old trucks. And you are so right about getting burned out. Kinda takes the fun out of it when you can't just relax and get the stress out. Still don't know what I'm gona do, right now the Boops a blessing in that area, she stays at home all day and takes care of things around the house. She and my other 3 kids were/are homeschooled so they have always been around the house, dad worked and mom was a mom. Well I see i'm rambling or is it a "rambler"

It's 3:45 and the wifes sugar dropped that's why I'm up, it's better now so I'm back to bed.

Hope to keep the fun and relaxation in it... just looking for a salution.

    Another '49 ~ that's great ! .

I burned out too , that's why I stopped doing restorations and judging too .

About the points ? not to worry , just get a nice Pertronix Ignitior and install that in your original dizzy. with a new epoxy filled coil painted gloss black and a DELCO decal slapped on it and fergeddaboutit ! ;)

Just check the timing once or twice a year and it'll be good to go forever .

Carbys are dead simple once you get past your fears , you'll see .

Or , you can mail it off to The karb King and it'll come back all ready to plop on and go .

Just remember : we have incredibly filthy fuel here so a clear , visable fuel filter is a must and change or clean it every time it gets the least amout of crud or turns black and you'll never have any carby troubles .

    News

Got word from my daughter that works at the paint shop that cuz put the Boops truck in the paint booth this morning, taped it for paint. That's the good new...

Now the bad news... it's a spare paint booth. They said they hope they can paint it next week, they are going out of town and want be back till Tuesday. What they are really saying is that it wan't be ready until sometime after the new year... I took off two weeks from the 22nd thru the 5th, I told them I had to have the truck by the 20th, they said "we will try"

Guess that is suposed to make me feel better, huh

Well fellows, the ball is in the other brothers court. The lazy cuz finally got off his duff and painted the truck... My daughter layed eyes on it herself today and said it looks BEAUTIFUL.

Now it's in the other cuz's hands, he's suposed to clear coat it tonight, I've learned better than to hold my breath waiting as if it's gona happen. But the good news is that he's the one who got on the first parts the same week I took it over to be painted.

I havent seen any pics of it and it's an hour away but I think I'm goin over tomorrow just to see for myself. If, and that's a big ifffffff  , it does actually have some paint on it i'll post some pics for you to see.

I hope you fellows had a great christmas and enjoyed your family and all the blessing that we have.

    Here's hopin......... :D
