Nate, I agree with your FOS observation. The guy went ballistic when a funeral flower car was suggested which is far more likely. I'm sure the forest service would want a low vehichle with passenger car suspension to use offroad on forest trails. As far as grafting the back of a pickup cab onto a car body my guys could gin this out in two weeks including the finished bed floor. They've already done this to a 98 Olds and a 49 Hudson car, even though Hudson made a pickup, through 48.

    RE: Converted 'Service' Cars

Just so ~ not a lot of folks seem to remember when this typ of rig was parked behind pretty much every Gulf station (or whatever brand you want) , to be used for jump starting , push starting , road side flat repairs and so on .

A few years ago I found a nice , unrestored '48 Buick with this typ of bed on it @ Pomona Swap Meet, it had a hoist and etc. , was just the same as it was the day they stopped doing road calls in it.....

Painted with gas station logos , etc. it had the very same assist rails that are common to older service bed typ vehicles .

    I'da bought it if only....

Well , it had a straight 8 engine and the world (in)famous Dyna-Squish transmission that gauranteed letters of appreciation from all the major oil companies...= no way could I afford to fuel that pig no matter how cheaply I coulda bought it for .

I was only like $1,200.00 in running condition and had _ALL_ the DeLuxe acessories and gingerbread on it so I imagine some "serious
collector " bozo bought it to strip for parts and then junk this irreplacable piece of petromobilia....

    Sorry , ranting again .

There is a 1941 Chevy ' Ute ' floating 'round L.A. they sold it in VGC for about $10K some years back , very $pendy yes but I felt it was worth it as it had been properly restored about 10 years before importing iut to N.American and so was like a 5 year old car...

Don't overlook the questions to the seller and his answers at the bottom of the auction posting. Looks like it could get real entertaining before this auction is over.
