I've been watching the progress of a '50 chevy PU being retrostored on the following website www.theguildofautomotiverestorers.com click on the link and once in there, click on "Projects" then scroll down until you see project 850. A lot of pictures available for reference for those of us who have trucks in pieces. Enjoy!

Progress is coming along with it Ken. I'm going home thursday through sunday so be expecting me to email you more pics. Hopefully we'll get the other side of the cab done and hopefully the firewall. I don't know, we'll see.

Hey Kevin, does your dad have a heater in his shop? You're gonna need it before long!

We already need a heater up in the east end of the state. It's colder than a well digger's arse in the Klondike already.

And another old truck has new life pumped into it. (I'm kinda glad that doesn't happen to us though- that could be painful!) Your truck's a beaut!

Before you get the wrong idea, that's not my truck. That is someone who's got a lot more money than me having his truck redone by professionals. But you know, even if i had more money than sense, i think i'd still want to do as much of my own work as i could just to be able to say, "Yeah it's mine, i restostored it myself"

That's EXACTLY what I'm TALKIN' 'bout! I don't know what it is, but I've turned down some good help because of that very thing. The other thing I've noticed about doing it "yourself", is you can hear it talkin' to you. You know every little 'ting that's up with it. And yes, I think there is a satisfaction that is more personal? I don't know- I might just be hard-headed too!:D

Well yeah we have heat in the shop but the bad thing about that is Dad's 40 ford is in peices and no room for mine. So I guess I'm just gonna have to be a little cold this weekend. I figured with as much welding as I'm doing this weekend I should stay pretty warm with that. I'm about to leave in a few minutes to go to dad's so I'll post some more pics of my truck after I get back. And maybe this time I can get a few pics of dad's if I don't forget. I have a bad case of CRS disease (can't remember sh#t). Have a great weekend guys.

New life into a real truck

Thanks for the great posts about my truck and accepting my input. My daughter "the BOOPSTER" said "hey that's cool" but she doesn't have the courage to post yet. The pictures on the link that was given brings to close to home the work that we put into the BOOPS 53. She says it's a real mans truck, not one of those wimpy new things.

I was asked for more info on the 53. Well we were pretty rough on the ol gal at first. The man we bought her from advised us that she had been in storage for 9 years and that the original owner had an un-named someone do some work on her. Well she had been coon-fingered (raccoons have to get there little fingers into everything) so much that it took a 47chevy, a 50 gmc (inside cab) and a 51 chevy to provide all the parts that were missing.

It did not start out as a frame off, but in an attempt to make it safe for the BOOP, it ended up that way. We sand blasted it (100%), 1 coat of self etching primer, then months of body work, sanding primer and more body work. She got new (safe) life from a 80 model camaro front end clip, and third member. The rest of the truck is original down to polishing the original stainless screws.

if interested I can upload more pics and details. I am looking forward to putting her back together, still waiting on the painter (cousin has a paint and body shop and are taking their time).
Then looking forward to the falcon, then the 51 that is patiently waiting for some love.

    the BOOP's Dad:D

Tell Boop that she doesn't have anything to worry about and get her to start posting. We need fresh ideas. I, myself, i'm proud of the fact that she thinks that an old chevy truck is cool enough to drive around in! All i ever heard from my girls was "Gee dad, why can't i have a BMW or Mercedes?" My reply to them was "because your daddy was born good looking but not rich".

    Wow ! that's a really nice .

    I'm unclear , it this a '50 as in the header or a '53 as mentioned about Boopster's Truck ? .

Too bad they didn't re-install the dash fan , those are very helpfull in summer heat . I'd like one .

The 235 engine too is a wonder as it appears freshly painted blue in some pix but later on is the correct grey color... ? . I see it has a passenger car rockerbox and so is hopefully the later design 235 with improved top end oiling for long life....

I wish I could drop this kind of $ into my old shop truck , I'd retain all the non stock stuff I've added over the years but would LOVE to have that high quality paint & chrome...

Looking 'round the site I see they had an old '72 BMW " Crash 5 " just like mine except of course , it looks new .

THANX for the cool link ! .

What a nice job! Its also helpful to see various stages of assembly as there are no other truck around here that I can look at to see "what it's supposed to look like."
