These days one can order nearly everything pre-engineered and ready made but is it killing craftmanship? Sometimes when I'm cussing a reproduction part for not fitting or doing as it should (they never do) I go look at my AD grill guard. I can find no tag or name so I like to think it's a one off piece made by a blacksmith of yesteryear with probably a forge and old buzz box welder. He didn't settle for "almost" or "good enough". Each rod is exactly vertical, aligned, and spaced within fractions of an inch. The horizontal rods at the ends are tapered for fit and the center strap is one piece that begins at the lower strap then twists and bends to run across the grill and finally twists and bends again to join the lower strap on the other side. The uppermost part of the guard has both the strap and rods aligned perfectly with the lower. Even has a plate on each side that my guess was to keep brush from getting hooked when backing up. One thing is for sure---it protected the grill.
What a great looking Guard, we do not see that any more because we have had our companies bought and the jobs shipped overseas. The companies still here which can make something like that have to charge an arm and leg to break even because they have to compete with the chinaclipper. Thanks for sharing Evan

Grille Guards That's a really nice one Evan ! . Grille Guards are still out there but sadly , most folks who buy an old truck , discard them right away..... " A thing of quality is a joy to behold " .
