I have completely rebuilt my '51 vent windows (almost). I still have to crush the pivot rivets. I don't feel real comfortable using a hammer and the setting tool. I am afraid I will hit the glass. Does anyone have any suggestions for an alternate method for crushing these rivets?

I tried using a C-clamp (cramp for you Brits), but it kept sliding off. I thought of cutting the setting tool to about 1" length and using a pair of vise grips or a bench vise. None of my vises will open enough to handle the full length of the setting tool.

    Any suggestions?

Use a 1/4 inch extension propped on a table or in a vice. Put the top of the rivet on it, then use the rivet set tool on the bottom. Swing carefully. Hang on, I'm looking for pix from ack's truck.
