Met a fella at the Buena Vista Colorado 4th of July Car Show on 07-05-2014 who had a beautiful 1954. Just wanted to share some photos. He restored the truck all by himself and thinks it's about 85% original OEM pieces parts.

I also liked the cream colored stripe.

It's like we stepped back to 1954.

Man, thats a NICE one. Thanks for the pics.
Did you drive the truck or the Jeep?
If you drove the Jeep, I hope you went up to St. Elmo, and beyond.

Steve we drove the Jeep. We did a couple days of hiking, Ptarmigan Lake via Cottonwood pass & Browns Creek Falls, attended two 4th of July Parades, Buena Vista & Salida, and a really nice car show Saturday in Buena Vista.

No real off roading on this trip. We tend to prefer hiking over the motorized stuff....

    Sorry for topic drift...

Sounds like a wonderful way to spend the holiday. I wish I lived closer to the mountains, I'd hike and Jeep several times a year.
I'm not a heavy-duty "rock-crawlin', mud-slingin'" 4-wheeler either. Just like to get away from traffic and people as fast as posible. I also do as much hiking as my mid-western lungs can take and also very interested in 1800s mining, western history.
I'm guessing, and hoping, you are not part of the Colorado "quiet use" crowd. They are VERY active around BV and Salida. For this reason, the feds are not maintaining any Jeep trails in the area, hoping, I suppose, that it will limit off roading and pacify the hippies. They already have lots of wilderness areas.

Topic drift is ok by me

We are not tree huggers, but I am concerned about how our state and national parks are used. Some folks have common sense , civility and obey protocol, others are as dumb as a rock.

With good management there are places for everybody, but mixing everybody together is a recipe for problems. I have no problem with motorized trails, but don't appreciate loud exhaust noise if I am hiking a few miles away. Tread lightly and be respectful, like you would expect others to do if they visited your home.

I have had a run in with a few mountain bikers on multi-use trails. We were once about 4 miles into a hike, very peaceful quiet day.. and this douche bag on a bike comes up behind us quietly and then whistles like he had lost his dog.. I nearly jumped out of my boots... but then again, it's hard to fix stupid. I considered making an ancient mountain biker funeral pyre... then my sense of civility returned.

The key is to research where you want to go and what usage the trails are before heading out. We avoid any trails that allow four wheelers and dirt bikes, and try to use Hiker / Horse multi use trails. We also have the luxury of hiking during the week since we are retired.

    Once again, we agree.

In the 5 trips I've made to Colorado, I've always tryed to be VERY considerate of hikers, horseback riders, mountain bikers, etc. In almost every case, I pull as far off the trail as possible, (and legal) and shut off the engine until they pass. This is always the case with horses. It also allows me to speak with the passersby, and I greet them even when they scowl at me. My Jeep is street-legal and has a quiet muffler.
My gripe with the quiet use coalition is, They want everything closed to anything with a motor, period. They go to county commissioner meetings, harp at the BLM, Forest service, and any official that will listen. I guess they want to make the rules but, let all of us pay the taxes.
Just a few bad examples can close trails and I wish people would use their brains. Then again, in modern America, I think there is a severe shortage of brain power.

Beautiful trucks! (I wonder if Ken ever gets the idea of doing this too... Letting that beautiful truck of his see the light of day, that is~)
I wonder how much weight that trailer hitch would be able to hold.

    Thanks for sharing the photos!

Zig, I'd like to find a trailer, hook it to the truck, load up the BEAUTIFUL 1967 Indy pace car, and bring 'em both home.

Nate, I've never, EVER, at any time wanted to live anywhere but, WAY out in the country.

That beautiful rig is TOO CLEAN ! .

Let me borry it for a week and it'll look like a right proper work truck  .

Country Living is fine but I'm old , fat and lazy so I prefer In Town (NOT City !) living these days .
