Still trying to workout a few bugs on my truck. I have TPI mounted on a mildly built 327. I've only driven it a few times but here are a couple of problems I've encountered:

    1. Misfire in 1 & 2. I've checked the wiring and can't seem to find any shorts. Thought the injectors may be clogged so I put a couple of bottles of injector cleaner in the tank.

    2. Front brakes mysteriously locked up while driving. (suspension is a '79 1/2 ton IFS)

    3. When coming to a stop the engine surges and Wants to accelerate.

    Any ideas?

    Whoa, Nellie!

That's not a good thing~ Just think if you were doing 65 with an idiot on your back bumper.
You have disc brakes, right? Had you just touched your brakes, or did they do this all on their own?

I assume you have a power booster. If so, I'll bet you don't have enough return spring on your pedal. This will cause the pedal to slowly depress and eventually the booster will get in on the act and apply the brakes for you.

Does it matter if it's a firewall mounted unit? Will it need a return spring?

I don't know if a firewall mounted unit needs a return spring.

    Questions:
How do you know it was only the front brakes that locked?
When the brakes "lock up" is the pedal down?
Is there a slight amount of slop in the linkage between the pedal and the booster diaphram?

Well I guess I assumed that it was only the front brakes involved because they were the only ones that appeared to be smoking. I can't recall but I don't think the pedal was down.
