Hey Guys, I am just getting into my 1953 estate sale truck. Chebby, I went all over my Differential and only could find a "U" stamped on top of the pumpkin, so that's still a mystery. Is there any other place they stamped numbers on the rearend? Could anyone decipher the Engine block numbers, they were over the starter motor on the block, "CON4 F 760" further forward was 3837004, Heads have 3836848 over the intake manifold. Thanks, Flashlight
Your block casting # corresponds with that of a 235 used from '55-'57. The head is a replacement head # used through '62. Hope that helps.
" 848 " 235 Cylinder Heads AND ; that is the latest and greatest , most crack resistant cylnder head GM ever made for full pressure 235's , you're looking good .
Thanks Nate! I'm taking my 47' to Hot Springs NC Show next weekend, I'm cruising over the hills on the old "Moonshiners" road to Asheville. I believe my old truck may have some previous experience on this old 2 lane highway. Hot Springs is a mellow village with a stop over for Appalachian trail hikers. The springs still run hot. A favorite for hikers, bikers and old car enthusiast's and very scenic. The 47' is due for some stock class recognition. Flashlight
