So as I've mentioned before I tried to teach myself bodywork. I'm no expert but for what its worth, I think I did ok. I may have used more bondo than most but oh well. My question is the primer. Since I did a section at a time over the past year, I'd simply used Rustoleum rattle can filler primer then wet sanded as needed. Will this primer do well with paint or do I need to use something else?

Get with a paint supply store, not a local discount store, that carries the Rustoleum line and ask them for the tech sheet for the primer you used. You may have to get in touch with Rustoleum itself, surely they have a web site. I don't know about the grey primer but the Rustoleum red oxide primer used to be oil based and there hasn't been an automotive oil base top coat since alkyd enamel. They can tell you of a top coat that is compatible or of a barrier coat, like sealer, that can be used before top coating. We use their non-porous primer for painting such as glass or chrome.
