[updated:LAST EDITED ON Feb-25-05 AT 02:00 PM (CST)]I was wondering about putting a diesel in my 62 Chevy 3/4ton 4x4 dually. I was thinking about getting a Duramax out of a wrecked truck with all the wiring harness that i need. i was wondering what you all thought about putting a diesel in one of these old pickups. That way you have the best of both worlds : Nice old Pick up and a New Diesel, that way you can go play with all the "big boys" and do it in better style.

If you can do it reasonably, money wise, I'd go for it. I own three trucks, two half tons ('61 & '68 with six cyl. and small block respectivly)and a '82 one ton dually with a NA 6.2 diesel. Loaded with fuel and my equipment the dually weighs about 6000#, and does 20-21 mpg around town all day with 3.73 gears and no overdrive (SM 465), it's a bit doggy, but I'm not trying to win a drag race either. A Duramax certainly would have some better acceleration numbers than an old 6.2.
If I could afford it, I'd convert the '68 to diesel also. IMHO, diesel is the best way to go.
