can someone tell me the width of the 60-62 Chevy frames, I am trying to compare them to the 63-66 frames where the beds bolt to the frames. thanks, Joe
Joe send (62 short step)his names Jermey good friend of mine a P.M. he has a 61 chevy 4x4 he could tell you the differance in frame widths.62short steps currentlly doing a frame swap.on his 61.
Joe I noteced your truck page you said family member project. My 66 shortwheel base truck was my Dads 19 years ago its mine till I pass on then my Son gets it.Just wanted to share that with you.
That is cool. It has lots more meaning when it has been in the family, especially when the family member has passed. we don't care how long it takes or what it cost to restore/upgrade this thing, it will always stay in our family and we will be making family memories at the same time. It is a tribute to my father in law and will always remind us of him. Thanks for sharing 283 man
I've got a 61 with the wood out right now that I can measure when I get home this afternoon. Are you wanting the bolt hole, center to center, measurements just at the front and rear of the bed?
just at the rear of the frame, where the rear sill bolts down, and overall frame width, if you could, even just the overall frame width at the rear would be cool, Thanks, Joe
Forgot about this last night. Sorry. Just measured it now. Outside to outside of the frame rails at the very end of the frame is 41 3/4". Bolt hole center to bolt hole center for the rear sill is 40".
ok now I'm confused, can someone give me frame width of the 63-66 frames. are there different frame widths between 63-66 fleet frame and the 63-66 step frame? seems preposterous to me but I don't know. my '63 frame is around 34 inches wide and the cross sills I got with my bed don't match up to the holes in the frame
Measuring my 66 step: 8 bolts hold down the bed and wood. Front two and back four are about 32" on center. Second pair from front are about 37 1/2 on center. (See your second picture.) This seems consistent with your 34 inch frame width. I'll measure in more detail underneath if you want. I don't think there are different frame widths for step and fleet. PS: Look though the pictures section for user xxlgreen. There is a picture there of a wood fleetside bed that looks like it has the same bolt pattern I measured on my truck.
Thanks billydonn! I am fairly confident that the bed I picked up is a '60-'62 and that is why the sills don't line up. The sills are rusted pretty bad , so I planned on replacing them anyway, believe if I get the '63-'66 sills all will be right in my universe, lol Thanks for the help and info to all!!
Sound like a good plan Joe,keep everyone posted with pictures on your truck, good luck and lots of good people on this site!!
