I am looking at all the different choices for converting the manual brakes on my '69 C10 to power disc / drum. Any thoughts on who sells the best complete kit? Also, I see that some places have rear disc conversions and others do not. Are rear disc brakes necessary? Any thoughts or experiences would be helpful. Thanks
The '71 C10 I had sported front disc/rear drum. It stopped fine and I never personally saw a reason to go 4 wheel disc, ease of brake repair alone would make me lean to the rear swap as well though. I HATE DRUM!
Blew front tire yesterday, drum brakes locked up on me and pulled me into the curb! Are there any other yrs that will swap? 73-87??? I found a '71 with front disc so may be going that route.
The spindles, rotors, calipers and all will swap over? How about the rear axles? I want 5 lug all the way around. Thanks in advance for the help!
Two options for 5 lug rear. 1) swap in a 72-or later rear with 5 lugs. 2) Use the replacement axle conversion kit from Early classic Enterprise. some would also suggest re-drilling the rear hubs to 5 stud and having the 5 lugs welded in. You might have trouble finding a shop to do that because of liability risks. Val
Having rear trailing arms/coil springs, will any '73 and up 5 on 5.5 truck rear swap right into my stock rear's place? I have a friend that has the front set up out of a '72,so I'm good there. I will just need to locate a rear end.
