When it was time to order new disc brake dust shields for my '69 with '72 front brakes I found they were no longer available from GM but the '73-'87 ones were. Realizing that there isn't much difference in the brake setups I went ahead and ordered the newer ones. When they arrived I discovered that they were a bolt on but had 2 differences. 1) The leading edge has a rolled over lip that keeps debris from being lodged between the shields and the rotor. This is a big improvemant and is plainly visible in the photos below. Note that the old one is just flat on the edge. Well, flat and rusty. :7 2) The other difference was that the lower contol arm was changed and the oval hole below the spindle for contol arm clearance was no longer there. I layed the old one on top of the new one and traced the opening on the new one with a pencil. Then I drilled a hole to get started and cut out the remainder of the hole with tin snips. A little file work to shooth up the opening and it looks fctory. I feel that using the newer shields is a big improvement as both of the old rotors had deep grooves worn in them on the back side from debris lodging in the rear pad.
