I have a '64 swb C10 that I would like to convert to power disc brakes and power steering. I have read that the complete front crossmember (with spindles, brakes, steering, etc.) from an early '70s model pickup can be bolted to by frame. This seems easier and less expensive that purchasing individual components to make the swap. I have access to a 1974 C10 for parts. Can the crossmember and related hardware be unbolted and place on my frame for an easy swap?

YES it can, everything lines up except for 1 bolt hole on each side you will have to drill it out. the easiest way to install this is by stripping everything off the front end. fenders motor everything. its not a hard swap it just takes time. any more Questions let me know

Yes it will fit. BUT, do your homework first. How much will it cost after you rebuild everything you are about to swap in?

I determined that, for me, a disk brake conversion kit would be a few hundred dollars more than piecing together a crossmember swap. That was after everything was rebuilt. Then there is the time spent driving around finding the parts that you don't have. To me, my time was worth the two hunderd.

I ordered a "complete" kit from a reputable supplier, and starting with a disassembled, but rebuilt front end, ( ball joints, bushings, etc etc) the kit went in in less than 8 hours. You heard me ! It was less than 8 hours from the time I started to the time I dropped it off the jack stands and drove it.

I've been using it for over two years with zero problems and unbeliveable braking. I did the power steering swap at the same time and that too is a huge difference.

Get a powersteering box and pump from a late 60's thru early 80's C10. I think Chevy Duty sells a bracket to mount the box. Order a double crank pulley with out a/c or a triple with a/c. You also need to cut your steering shaft and either have some taken out or added on. I can't remember. Use a hole saw kit to drill two holes for your hoses and make sure you use a grommet on the holes.
