I have 1957 chevy 3100 w/ 235 6 cly. Is there a gasket for the Distributor? When I pulled the distributor there was no O ring or gasket. I check a spare motor I had and the same, no gasket or O ring. The parts house looked it up and sold me a O ring but it bigger than the shaft on the distributor but small enough to fit under the vacuum advance . It done not look like it would help keep oil from coming out and dirt coming in.If anyone can help. Thanks for the help. Brandon bradshaw.

I wouldnt think you'll get too much oil up there to worry about it, but you can make a gasket easy to solve your concern, Using cardboard or cork or ? no big deal to seal the deal !:)

I am fairly certain that there is a papaer gasket that was used, and any supply house should have them as it would be the same up into the 1980's.

    RE: Distributor Gasket

Originally there was a flat fiber gasket , as the dizzy must be free to rotate for the vacuum advance to work correctly , it's a snug , not tight fit into the engine block .

Any big truck shop or hydraulic shop will have fat o-rings , get one that fits not overly tightly .
