After buying a door that was trashed but had I thought good hardware I was able to get the latch put on my truck for the drivers door. If remember I have always stated that my drivers door seemed to be used as a class project truck on how to break into a vehicle. The door had started to not let me out from the inside, had to roll down window and use the exterior door handle. I took the relay off the 52 thinking it was original but they turned out to be repops.. For those that do or have replaced the door relays, are you placing the rod inside the depression the original has or installing the relay/s with all three screw holes and the relay is above the depression? I do not have any photos but I think or hope you get my inquirey.
It does look like the remote should fit in that channel, however, chevy ran the relay diagonally across the inner door skin and nder the cardboard door panel. If you install the relay in the channel, the door handle works backwards.
I have the original hardware on my passenger door and it is in the channel, and the hardware on the trash door I bought for some parts had the relay in the channel also, with the lever connection to the rod/flat bar at the bottom not at the top near as the re-pops are or what my 52 had.
If you scroll down a few threads to CarCrazy396 "newby with pictures" thread you can see how the drivers door came from Chevrolet.
