    Hello everyone,

    My doors have existing cylinders and locks. The door hardware works fine. Is there anyway I can have keys made for my existing locks, I dont want new cylinders, just keys. It may be the same cost as replacing around 25, bucks each. ;)

    Find a good locksmith and he or she can make a key for your locks. I've had it done a few times. Chris

    And it's a lot cheaper if you take your locks to them instead of them coming to you.

    The lock mechanism for the glove box comes off by removing a clip on the back side. The ignition lock is removed from the switch by pushing a paper clip into the small hole on the front of the lock mechanism and while holding the clip in place turning the key CCW. Of course, if you had a key you wouldn't need to get the lock mechanism out. So, assuming no key, the easiest way is to remove the outer door handle with the key lock. See instructions on page 146 of the 55-59 GMC Maintenance Manual. Normally you can find it here:

    but TOMCP (The Old Car Manual Project) seems to be down right now.

    On my 57 Chevy I took the lock out of the door and had keys cut from the code on the lock itself.I'm talking 57 Chevy car, maybe trucks are the same as far as key code.

    Or ;

    Take the door handle to all the swap meets and thrift stores in your area , most will have large amounts of original GM keys (the door keys have rounded shoulders) and try them , one by one untill you find one that fits and
    operates the lock cylinder ~ now you'll have an original GM key for your classic GM truck . On The Cheap .
