Question, My original door latch assy. that was inside the door was no good, loose and badly worn, I purchased a new one for both door. The drivers side works perfect but the passengers side is so tight that it will not function. Now, I consider myself to be mechanicly minded and able to fix most things but this has stumped me. I can move the working parts with much effort but it refuses to latch or lock. I have taken it back out, lubed it, attempted to get it looser (with no luck) and tried about everything I know, it still want work while the other lock moves smoothly and correctly. Question is should I give up and buy another new one or are there some tricks you fellows know? The old one is to worn to use at all. Thanks, TB'sD
We used to call it Mechanically inclined... we could screw up anything Loosen every screw in it and slowly tighten them while adjusting the mechanism, or am I preaching to the choir? Dad gum that felt good! Sorry man, you can kick my butt next Friday!
If you are like me you probably bought it years ago so the return thing is out. If not, why not give it a shot. CP has been real good about taking stuff back even if it was my fault that I ordered the wrong thing. Of course you may have gotten it somewhere else so you would have to see what their policy is. Is it made just like the one you took out? Compare the two and see if some numb nuts was about to go on coffee break just before he assembled it. Some of those things in there may be out of whack. Lock comparison Yep, both are identical except one want work. It is as if the 10 thousand pound press used to assymble it pushed a little to hard. the moving parts are as if they are bound up. I got it about 4 months ago and it was sealed in the original bag, no rust or corrosion, just lots of good lube that didn't loosen it up. Even out of the truck in my hand it is difficult to get the parts to move. I purchased it from another supplier (wish it did come from CP). I might be able to loosen it up later, but for now I'm gona order another since my high priced help will be here next friday, don't want a penny holding up a quarter or a nickle holding up a dime or however that goes Just hope the next one is not in the same shape or Ken might fire me TB'sD
once upon a time I bought a nice new hi-capacity oil pump from a very reputable racing firm. It had two gears. One, an idler, spinning freely on a shaft, and the other pressed onto a drive shaft. In two days, they were both spinning freely, and my pressure was zero. You just never know. Something bad happened to your latch before it went into the bag and the company ought to stand behind it no matter how long its been. I expect parts to be checked before they are sent out. No Slack You fellows don't cut a fellow no slack. I didn't know CP existed when I ordered the first latch. Since I found CP every part has come from them... Got a new one on the way, took the old one out and worked on it again. I think it will make a good boat anchor Got to get the new one here before the Big Boss get here next friday so he can show me how to get these doors to fit and latch right. TB'sD
You've probably already checked this but...... I have had this very thing to bite me in the butt a few times when working for GM. Some times when they install the pin they will mushroom the pin a little bit and that will make it bind up in the pin bushings. If that's not the case I have had a few bushings to be spread a little too much when they installed the pin as well. I don't know the shape of your old pin and bushings (probably worn out) but drive out the new pin and install the old pin and bushings and see if it loosens up or not. Be sure to put graphite grease on the pins and bushings so it doesn't squeek. Or you could just wait on your new one to get there.
