Just bought some, thought it would be an easy job. Might be but I have not started it yet since I realized that the window guide has to move or come completely out. My question is which is it? Can I work around the window guide? or........ do I need to disassemble the door to replace the old latches. I can't wait to see the doors shut and stay closed. Any ideas are greatly appreciated....Ken
the guides come loose with the 2 screws in the jamb..then they move far enough out of the way to slide the latch down and finagle it out. Put it in in reverse order.
Remember to buy a foo-foo can of white grease and lube the new latch well before installing it.... Don't toss out your old latches for a few months of service of the new ones unless you've bought N.O.S. American made latches .
Ok, latches installed. was able to work around window guides. Next question: How you you get the door handle shaft to go through the two square holes in the latch assembly? The two square holes do not line up and both appear to be spring loaded. I can tell the shaft on the drivers side has not made it though the second square hole because I can see a rather large separation between the handle and the base. Any help is greatly appreciated.....Ken
Jiggle theory sounds good but I'm not sure that it worked. The second square hole that the door handle shaft needs to pass through is turned ever so slightly in the oppsite direction that the handle turns. This should not be that hard...........
