What do you mean by factory latches? I installed a new set of latches from CP and they don't work any better than the old ones. The original striker plates allow very little adjustment up & down and no adjustment in & out. May be I"m missing something. Thanks
Good luck, Warren Ive had my doors off and on their hinges toooooo many times. Each time I put them back on, it's always a game to get them lined up "just so", so they close quite simply. It's amazing what just a little "in" or "out" will do for ease in closing.
new stock door latches I put in new stock door latches, and stricker plates, new weather stripping and adjusted them per http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/doors/door_latch.htm They work great !.. I had to slam the doors before, they rattled and leaked air.. now they just glide shut and no rattling or air leakage.. takes a little time consuming adjustments... I actually had to enlarge the stricker plate holes to allow a little more adjustment.. but wow what a difference..
I've had to waller out many a hole...on my trucks to make the strikers fit right. Not too difficult. Shure makes it easier.
I tried to find the meaning of "waller" Old Chevy and could not. Does "wallering" a hole (in the striker) allow it to move forward/backward or tilt? The strikers on my 51 seem to only adjust up/down and not forward, backwards or at a tilt. I'm not trying to be an ass but I don't understand the lingo. I would like to use your advise but.........
Unless Of Course..... You're on a farm then it means a large , fenced in mud puddle as in " That there Hog Waller over yonder " Not that I ever pitched hay of yanked cowtits in 30° weather , nor did I ever shovel more sh*t than you'll find in Washington D.C. oh no , not me ! FWIW ; I have _NEVER_ found the need to waller out the striker's holes , the latch should be adjusted for the best fit and usualy the door will look aout of alignment , welcome to GM's policy of shovong AD's out the door as fast as they could slap 'em to-gether , if brand 'F' had tried this , they'd be long gon by now...
