Success!!!... as opposed to Suck Cess. I let the door glass installation set for a couple of weeks. I tried to research methods for inserting the vent windows and found little help. Confession time: Then I ventured to another Forum and found most people who had trouble with the side glass eventually found out it was because the glass was cut incorrectly. I went back to my original glass and found it was no wider than 18 1/4" at any point. When I measured my new glass it was 18 5/16" [1/16" wider]. I also read where someone opened the vent frame channel by pressing a wooden dowel into it. I got three sizes of dowel ( 1/4", 5/16" and 3/8"). I progressively pressed a dowel into the channel. [The 3/8" will not go all the way in.] After cutting, grinding and sanding the glass to the correct dimension [18 1/4"] (about 1 hour of work), I installed both side windows in about 30 minutes. There are a couple of other tricks I discovered: 1. After installing the side glass, roll it all the way down. [top part of window channel felt must be pulled out of the way] 2. Put a light inside the door for better visibility. 3. Sight down the vent side of the side glass to make sure the bottom is not pushed past the hole that secures the vent frame channel at the bottom. This makes sure the glass is vertical. 4. Insert the vent frame half way. 5. Roll the side glass up about 1 inch while making sure the side glass is in the vent channel. 6. If the glass is the right size, the vent frame should go in fairly easily. It will still take some massaging. You may have to reach inside and pull the vent frame channel away from the glass. 7. Try to roll the side glass up about 6-8 inches before securing the vent frame. Roll it up and down a couple of times to make sure the side glass is in the vent frame channel. 8. This should take the pressure off the vent frame so that it can now be secured with the two clutch screws and three small machine screws. Don't tighten all the way until the bottom bolt is secured. 9. Using an inspection mirror and a long-handled nutdriver, install and tighten the bolt that secures the bottom of the vent frame. 10. Replace the top of the window channel felt and roll the window all the way up. 11. Open a bottle of the new Shiner "101" and enjoy. Greg
Yabbutt ; Greg has vastly superior ventilation and defrosting too , hot or cold , thanx to the " No Drafts " he just installed .
