I installed my door window using the old window tape and some trany oil trick. the oil expanded the tape and it seemed to hold fine. untill today when i was rolling down the window and the tape let go. nothing broke so i just need to glue the window in the channel. my question is what will hold better that the old window tape. i have a tube of the 3m gorlia snot. but i think thats to thin. and there is a gap that the window tape filled.... what are you guys using??? NATE????

    Oddly Enough....

There's a product called : ' Window Setting Tape ' , it's available from body shop supply stores , Eastwood etc.

You de-grease the glass and channel 100 % then fold this tape over the bottom edge of the glass , use a soft mallet to drive the glass into the channel then use a razor blade to trim off the excess tape sticking out and ! VIOLA ! (pronounced " WALLA !") the glass is in there _permanently_ .

Of course , if Evan has a different way , that's prolly better .

Goprilla Snot works too but it takes a while (days in the hot sun) to fully cure or it'll just pull apart again .

I used the oil and tape also, my vent window is loose. Use the glass man's urethane sealant. Works for the big guys....

Would you guys be using oil (a lubricant) on glass setting tape......

    It's supposed to go to-gether dry .

That is what the manual said.....it is supposed to swell the tape and make it tight. It worked for a while and is still holding on my other windows.

I've always done it Nate's way, dry and clean. Have had very good results but just for the last 58 years. If you want an absolute bond do as "ol' chebby" says and use 3M windshield urethane but be warned it's nearly permanent. You can't use an air cutter or cutting wire like on the new cars so much heat and pressure is needed to separate the glass from the channel once it's bonded. This is a handy option on a rare car that has channels corroded to the point of being too weak to clamp onto the glass setting tape but on ones that have new or good channels available I prefer the tape.
