Does anyone make a 2 1/2in drop spindle for the stock bearing/hub? The ones I found are made to work with different bearings and brakes. I got the 5 lug conversion with the 4 3/4in bolt pattern that uses the stock spindle and I want a 2 1/2in drop or whatever drop they offer.
You found a 5 lug conversion for stock spindles and DRUM brakes ??? The only drop spindles that I know of for our trucks take into account a disk brake conversion,, and that is money well spent !! dv

It seems I have to make some modifications to the cross member in order to get more drop in the front.
The new spindles will actually be designed for disc brakes. You can get new rotors from any part store 73-87 chevy truck fairly cheep.
That kit, in my opinion, is NOT a good selection for trucks. It uses CAR, (Chevelle), disks and 10 inch rotors that will not result in much, if any, improvement in braking over stock drum brakes. A better choice is the kit that comes from Early Classic Ent and uses TRUCK components such as 12 inch rotors and comes with a choice of stock or dropped spindles. So, I don't really have an answer for you with that kit you selected. The best option for lowering for you will be 2 inch drop springs. 2 inches would be the max I'd advise to keep your front end alignment guy friends with you and to keep the fillings from rattling out of your teeth. I would avoid trying to make changes to the crossmember in order to get that kit to work the way you want. Sorry, I know it's not the answer you would want, but I'd see if CCP would take that kit back and get one from ECE.. dv
The truck will be a weekend only truck, going to car shows and hot rod meets and so. I'm building an air bag setup for it right now and with the stock wheels and 31" tires the frame is on the ground. The new wheel/tire combo with the 5 on 4 3/4 bolt pattern is slightly taller and that's why i wanted dropped spindles for the front. The rear is easy to get down some more, the front will be harder to drop more, unless i do some major modifications. The 10in discs will be fine for now. I can always get bigger rotors and calipers for that setup later. Thanks for the info guys
The kit comes with 11in rotors. I don't see nothing wrong with that kit for a custom truck. My truck weighs about the same like the chevelle, so braking should be fine. I'll get the brake booster for it once I'm done with the air bag setup.
youve already made the brake purchase, so if a bigger drop up front is what you want, look at porterbuilt.com they make a drop crossmember that puts the body on the ground running 30" tires w/bags....pricey, but it'll put it in the weeds WHILE your driving it. g.t.
I saw that crossmember in a magazine and I was thinking about making something similar. But no matter what you do at the front, the body never sits on the ground, you're gonna hit the drive shaft crossmember and transmision and frame first. I have modified the drive shaft crossmember. I'll tackle the rest of the suspension setup in a week or so . Have been working on the doors and windshield last weekend
Your tranny and frame are hitting the ground b4 your rockers??, ive drop'd my '66 shortwide 6/8 and believe me, the body WILL hit the ground before the frame... you sure your trucks not sitting on a newer frame? g.t.
I have to check again, but I know the drive shaft cross member hits the ground before anything else and i have eyeballed the rest and it seemed the frame would hit just a bit before the body does
