    Hi all,

As you know, I am in the middle of upgrading the driveline and brakes on my '55 first series truck. Using the old SM 420 rear, converting it to open driveline and putting a '73 Nova rear end in it.

I need some help on how to get the E-brake cables to work in the truck now with the Nova rear in it. Surely, I'm not the first person to do this upgrade so somebody must have figured a way to do this. Which cables to use, etc.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Andy

I just did this on the 53. I ran the cables up under the floor and installed a floor e brake handle. I ran a threaded rod back to a balance block to pull both cables. I made a bracket to hold the cable sleeves in place. It works great. I will post pictures when I can take them.

    E-brake

Thanks Russ, but I'm looking to keep the original foot operated E-brake. I think I have it figured out. My friend/patient that owns a shop is doing the work for me as I am still recovering from hernia surgery and can't lift heavy stuff yet (you all have NO idea how hard it is for me to let other people do mods on my stuff?it's killing me and I'm really trying not to be a PIA about it, but I am at his shop at least once a day checking up on the progress and supervising. Good thing all the guys there know me and we all like each other.)

The work is going quite well and I am very impressed with the quality of the work they are doing to my old beater farm truck. They are used to working on some really high dollar collectibles and early 'Vette work, so my beater while special to me is more of an ugly duckling to them. They are treating it with respect and understanding that it's the way I want it. I WANT the truck to look like a beater. I like the patina.

Back to the E-brake issue. I think we have it figured out. Going to use a modified version of Coilover's fix for this that I archived from 2009.

Anyway, Russ I sent you a pm if you get a chance to look at it.

    Andy,
You may have directions on using the foot brake on an AD sitting on an S10 frame. If it uses an equalizer (banana) at the end of the rod from the pedal then it's for an S10 setup. If you still have the factory cross shaft with the short arm on each side to which the cable from the backing plate of the stock rear end ran to then it's super easy to hook up. We have a 52 with a Nova rear in the shop right now so I'll take a couple pics---it's pretty much self explanatory.

    cables

So my friend that's doing the work on the truck has modified the backing plates on the Nova rear to accept the stock e-brake cables. How cool is that? I haven't seen the mod yet, but I'm looking forward to checking it out on Monday.
