electric choke

    i have a new edelbrock carburetor with electric choke in an 82 chevy with a 350.my question is ,when i supply the choke with 12 volts and turn the key on without starting the motor,should i see or hear the choke close?how does electric choke actually work? thanks

    The choke pot is a type of spring that expands as it gets hot. The electric current being passed thru it makes it expand and that moves the choke open via the linkage. Unless you unhook the linkage, you will not be able to see it move because the choke cam (plastic cam) is in a bind in the linkage. That is why you have to blip the throttle to get the idle to come down.
