I just had the rear-end rebuilt and when I got it back the e-brake was so loose that I can pull it all the way and it isn't tight enough to hold the truck (1965 L/B).
So I got under it and tightened the adjusting nuts as far as they will go and it still isn't tight enought to hold.

Any ideas, or is there something I'm missing?

    Thanks,

    Rip

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Mar-28-04 AT 08:48 AM (CST)]There are a few different holes in the crossmember(s) that the cable can pass through, if you make it too direct, the cable wont pull tight as it is too long. Try finding another hole to pass the cable through, or cut the cable and get a clamp from a hardware store and shorten the cable.

A good way to make sure it is tight enough is to park on a steep hill and put the e-brake on and make sure it holds in place. I adjusted mine on a very mild slope and then almost lost the truck the first time I parked on a steep hill. But boy, that was the fastest I ever hopped on one foot! (had one foot out of the truck and one foot in the truck that actually got stuck somehow under the brake pedal)
