Where are the block casing number locations on the 216's and 235's?

I have 3 engines, but cant find the casting numbers on any of them, all engine have stater still on them, wondering if they happen to be behind starter.

I see some info on internet indicating casting number are supposed to be below dist.. but none here on my blocks.

I found the serial numbers.. except one engine has no stamping for serial number?

general descriptions, without casting numbers, but I am interested in specifics...

trying to determine if my engine in truck is the stock engine. also trying to determine the vintage of spare engines out of truck.

basically the 216 engine in truck runs well, except for rocester carb issues.

trying to decide weather to rebuild a 235 and replace it.. just because 235 are better.... or just keep the 216...

guess it depends on if engine in truck is original... shame to break up a matched set.

I hear you and highly agree ~ breaking up the correct original set of truck and 216 engine would be a shame .

if you scrape the gunk off the serial number stamped into the pad just below and behind the distributor and take it over to The InLiner's Page , you'll be able to de-code the year and build plant etc.

Look for a casting number on block in between the dizzy and the fuel pump. The serial #, like Nate said, should be on a pad right behind the dizzy. As far as the serial number is concerned, if your truck is a '53, and one of the engines is the original one, it should start with the letter "L".

    Happy hunting!;)
