I'm overhauling my '64 Chevy 230. I got a new oil pump, but I don't know how to get the pick-up tube out of the old pump. Any suggestions? Any hints or suggestions about the entire assembly process would be appreciated. Especially initial start-up and adjustments. Thanks to all.
Charles F Rising JR The pick up tube is pressed into the oil pump on the engine when i come across one of those i usually ethier spot weld it to the pump or pin the screen to the pump as for start up and assembly make sure that you have primed the oil pump. Otherwise you will not have oil where it needs to be when it needs to be there! As for removeing the pick up tube< try puting the pump in a vise with softjaws so as not tghe hurt the pump and the twist and pull metheod of removal. It worked for me so it may work for you??
