Engine replacement, but with what?

my old 307 died and now I am doing a full restore on my 1972 Chevy C-10 so my question is how do you decide what engine to put in?

Should I go with a 350 or 383 rebuild? Something bigger?

I don't plan on towing heavy with this more of a house truck then anything else?

my budget is not huge but I can spend 5-8K on the engine...
