Would like some feedback on what type of power plant to put in a 53 chevy pu. Father son project, started this month, have 4 yrs to finish when jr is 16. Want some muscle but not insanity. Doesnt need to win it all in his first year on the road.

RE: Engine Tranny Combo for 53 P/UP

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Aug-19-02 AT 11:35 AM (CST)]:) Howziit coachj! Hmmmmm....JMO,depends on how you like to drive.

if you want power, decent gas mileage, and an easy time finding parts/servicing, a 250HP 327 or 350 with 350 auto trans makes good sense.

for better freeway mileage, same engine with 200/700R4 fills the bill.

for heavy towing, a stock rebuilt 400sbc works great.

for "WOW!" factor, gas mileage be damned, and more torque than you will ever need...if you want your ride to lead on the freeway, not trail along in the slow lane...then any big-block chevy/buick/olds/pontiac/caddillac engine.

my truck has a 300HP(est)454 engine, but heyyy, it came with the truck! LOL!:+ :+ :+

    sorry about the last"insanity" part.
    Myron
