exhaust donut and bolts

I put a new donut on the exhaust and the bolts are not long enough for even nuts to catch.

suggestions?

if i need to get longer bolts, how do i get the old ones out after 45 years?
 
lots of lube, heat, anger, cutting torch, big hammer, cusing, screw drivers thru the wall. :eek:
 
I,m Assuming Your trying to do it Without Removing the manifold Which makes it even Tougher but still Possible . But If They are Not Broke off You Have a Good shot at it, By Soaking good with Penetrating oil, & Go to Your Local Auto store & Either rent, Borrow or Buy a Stud Remover You Can Ucse a 1/2 drive Ratchet & Extension , The tool Grips the Outside of the Stud & Tends to work Better Then The Old double nutting Trick Because It Provides a Better Grip With Less Chance of Twisting it off , Just Work it Out Slowly Back & Forth Keeping it soaked as good as Possible . Are you sure you have the right part for your motor? If its the correct replacement for the original doughnut and the studs are original it should fit without changing to longer studs. Just a thought.........
 
i thought of that. I took the donut that came in the gasket set to the parts store. They pulled one from the back and its the same thing.
 
just a thought, take your gasket to a different parts house and see if they come up with the same part. ive been working in the parts and service departments for a dealership for several years and its amazing how one parts store will come up with something totally different then the other store. after awhile you figure out which store is good at what, plus you develope favorite parts countermen that you have found that actually know what there doing...thats rare because most aftermarket parts houses will hire anybody, espesially people with no knowledge of cars. and for us, thats NOT helpful. :rolleyes:

notice he will also have a short temper and everyone else is asking him where it is instead of looking on their computer. This is bcause he was probably their before the computers.
 
I've worked in a dealership parts department for over ten years now. If that what i have to look forward to then i've got to find a new line of work.
 
hey greg65, with the auto industry going the way it is, well both probably be looking for new lines of work. :confused:
 
Very true. I didn't mean to hijack the thread. Hope everthing works out on the donut gaskets.
