Hi All, I was watching the Barret Jackson car auction on tv and they had a '71 Toyota Land Cruiser with an inline 6 and the guys on the tv said the motor was based off of the Chevy 235....they even said the rod and main bearings were interchangeable ????......I think I heard about this some time ago from an old timer that always complained about the japanese copying a Chevy engine..... Thanks, Leon
Now you know why those Landcruisers never die. I believe that Chevy may have actually licensed the engine to Toyota. Andy
Yep , GM sold the tooling for the 235 engine to Toyota in 1962 . Getting the average Stovebolter to accept this , is impossible I've been trying to convince the guys over on The Stovebolt Page for years and they simply don't want to hear it . I well remember in the early 1970's folks would use old 235 hop up parts to increase the power of Land Cruisers...all the off road magazines had articles about it . Simply looking at a bare Toyota long block , instantly removes all doubt . Japan has along history of buying tooling or producing under license , it started back in the 1930's (that I know about) with Datsun producing the British Austin A-30 under license...
