Fender and Grill difficulties

Hey guys,
My earlier post didn't get any readers, and maybe this won't either, but I am very eager for the insights of you old pros on this one.

Getting closer to time to paint the 52 3/4 ton truck.

I want to remove the front fenders, which has gone quite well up to where they seem to attach to the front grill. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to detach the grill, or the fenders from the grill.

Any great ideas???!

Hey Eric,if I remember correctly,you need to remove the grille bolts from inside the fenders. Crank your wheels around right or left,crawl under and look in the direction of the grille and you will see them.

If you are used to working on newer trucks, you might think that the grill would be held on by 4 or 6 screws as a modular unit. When I removed the grill from my '49 1 1/2 ton, I found that it was held on by about 24 bolts. They are at the ends of most levels of the grill bars and across the bottom and top where the hood latch plate is mounted. I just started taking it off from the top down. After you pull some nuts and bolts off, wiggle each bar to make sure it is completely free. If it isn't then there is another bolt. Some bolts are connected to the inner fender panels and you need to feel around inside the outer fenders to locate the nuts. It really helps if you have a helper, but I did it by myself. You will need to be a contortionist in some areas if you do it by yourself.

Eric "fedeale" is correct if you are looking to take the fram out in one big section instead ot each individual slat there are bolts in the hood latch panel, and up inside the front of the iner fenders 3 or 4 on each side if I am not mistaken. Dont forget the ones at the bottom of the grill where the splash panel is.
