OK I have the 2 ferrules for the oil pressure gauge that still have the tubing in them. How do I remove the tubing? It looks like the ferrule has it's own compression fitting. Is it really reusable or do I have to attach it to the old tubing? Thanks, Gallo
It's only ' re-usable ' on that same tube , once you replace the old rusted away original steel tube , you'll need to buy new ferrules ~ they're available in ALL hardware stores . Once or twice over the years , I have had sucess in getting a used ferrule off a tube but it's a rare happenstance . Remember : use steel or plastic tubing as copper tends to crack and leak .

New Ferrules will be football shaped except in a very few cases . Our trucks use the common ones , as you tighten and re-tighten it over the years , the ends can get dented in...
Maybe I am missing something so I beg your indulgence. I live in Louisville so I went to the main brake part company downtown after consulting with the local haredware store. They had a ferrule that was very similar to the "football shaped" fitting but the end is actually a little concave. I haven't done it yet but they said if I attempt to tightened it and it makes a circular mark around the the fitting is should work. What do you think? Secondly, I am missing the female fitting that accepts this kind of ferrule fitting at the block. There is a fitting at the block that accepts the pressure hose to the oil filter and I believe a spot for the pressure gauge but it is the same size female fitting as the oil line. I really don't know what to do at this point. Do I try to adapt it with todays fittings and ferrules? Thanks, Gallo
Well ; It figures a brake company wouldn't have the fittings used to plumb up an oil pressure gauge but yes , it should work just fine . The brass nipple sticking out of the engine block should be good , all you need is the nut - slide the nut up the tube , slide the Ferrule on the tube so a little bit of the tube is sticking out and assemble it to the engine's nipple , start the nut and run it up snug , then a skosh more with the wrench and you should be good to go . Pretty much any auto parts store will have the fittings in a kit for gauge installation as all FLAPS carry gauges , just don't use the plastic pipe if you have a metal tube instead...
