Hey everyone, I have a 1950 short box and I just bought a 1953 short box as a parts truck. I know I want to build my suspension and paint my frame so i was wondering if there is any differences in the frames or cab mounts between the 2 years. If they are the same I will strip the parts truck and build that frame while enjoying my truck and then swap everything later rather than have my truck all torn down and no toys to drive. Thanks for your replies.
I believe the frames are the same and didn't change until 54. In 54 it seems that the frames didn't come up over the rear axle as high as they did in the earlier years...
Excellent. Thanks guys. Watch for my build thread that I am about to make. Today I picked up the parts 53 and the frame was in great shape so I will build that while I enjoy my truck.
Frames Lessee..... '53 has the improved two side cab to frame mounts wheras your '50 has the central rear cab mount , The '53 has tube shocks , vastly better than the '50's Knee-Action crappos . You're on the right track here , build up the '53 slowly and carefully .
Damn Nate, you made me crawl under my truck to verify because something didn't sound right. The '50 has the improved two side cab to frame mounts in the back. Also, '50 was the first year for the double action (tube type) shocks. Ken
I'm afraid I have to side with Ken here, Nate. Both of my '50s have the tube shocks and four cab mounts on the frame. I think '49 was the last year for both alternatives. Damon
